I have a job that requires many 4140 blocks to be machined. I am currently blocking them down to their overall dimensions before I machine the features in them. Two blocks showed up from the supplier an inch wider than they needed to be. The quickest way to to get rid of the extra material was to plow it off with a facemill. The title is a bit of a misnomer as my facemill was about 1/8" narrower than the piece and I had to take eight passes (four heavy, four small) to reduce the height of the block by an inch. From the video one can see that the machine would have done it in four passes if the facemill had been wide enough. The pile of swarf around the mill at the end of the video was some (but not all) of the swarf from milling all the blocks shown at the end. Thanks for watching.
