The words of Nathanael of Cana, “Can anything good come out of Nazareth?” have become famous. Those words, spoken in John 1:47 characterize the town’s insignificance to most people living in Israel two thousand years ago. Nazareth was a lovely little town snuggled in the hills overlooking the broad and fertile Plain of Esdraelon but in Mary and Joseph’s day, the interest in the town had dwindled. Nazareth was only some small white stone houses, a small synagogue built on its highest knoll, and a marketplace at the entrance to the village. A census taken a few years before the birth of Jesus had the town’s population at 89. The only thing that kept the town alive was a Roman garrison and the people living there were simple, mostly farmers, but Nazareth was also home to a weaver, a dyer, a blacksmith, and a carpenter named Joseph. Please join us this Thursday evening at 7:30 PM at Jesus Lives in Bellevue for amazing worship and a good Christmas word called "Mary & Joseph".
