In this video, I show how to make soft and fluffy Guyanese butter flaps from scratch. This easy bread recipe is perfect for breakfast or anytime. Ingredients: • 4 cups all-purpose flour • 2¼ tsp active dry yeast (1 packet) • 1 cup warm milk • ¼ cup sugar • 4 tbsp butter (softened) • 1 tsp salt • 1 egg • ½ cup warm water (add as needed) • 2 tbsp melted butter (for brushing after baking) Instructions: Step 1: Activate the yeast In a bowl, mix warm milk, yeast, and 1 tablespoon sugar. Let sit for 5–10 minutes until foamy. Step 2: Mix the dough In a large bowl, add flour, remaining sugar, and salt. Add yeast mixture, egg, and softened butter. Mix and slowly add warm water until a soft dough forms. Step 3: Knead the dough Knead for 8–10 minutes until smooth and elastic. Step 4: First rise Place dough in a greased bowl, cover, and let rise for 1 hour or until doubled. Step 5: Shape the butter flaps Divide dough into equal pieces and shape into oval rolls. Place on a greased baking tray. Cover and let rise for 30–40 minutes. Step 6: Bake Bake at 350°F (175°C) for 15–20 minutes until golden brown.
