I won't lie. I tend to roll my eyes at calling a drink like this a Martini. It just does a lot to confuse what a Martini is and then when I am behind a bar and someone orders a Martini and I give it to them and then they spit it all over the bar in disgust and yell "This doesn't taste like Lychee!!!! Don't you have any flavors?????" Really sticks in my craw! Is that very pedantic of me? Yeah maybe. Is it maybe even a bit arrogant, yeah I guess it could be seen that way. Real talk though, this drink is a delight that everyone should mix. And of course I gotta give it a pass because the name is Cheeky and tells you exactly what you can expect when you take your first sip. Much like revolutionary Cinema of yesteryear, you really have to be able to see this drink in the context of it's time to really appreciate what it is. When this drink was invented Tea, Gin and Egg Whites were seldom if ever used in cocktails and seeing this on a menu was a mind blowing experience for drinkers of that time. It's a testament to creations like this that these style drinks are now a fixture on most cocktail menus the world over and It's a testament to the influence, brilliance, creativity and forward-thinking-ness of it's maker.
