My opinion is that they look much better, but you would need more for complete coverage. If you are cutting into plaster, a jigsaw helps make short work of the wood lathing. Once I found the approximate location of each light, I drilled a small pilot hole and used a copper wire that I bent at a 90 degree angle at around 3" and spun in the pilot hole to make sure I had enough room for the light before I drilled that larger hole. Curved ceilings make measuring to center the light less straightforward. I used a level and a ruler to measure distance from the wall 1' down from the ceiling, I then used a laser ranger to see how far I was from the wall. Made sure I was at least 2'6" from all walls and there is no issue with light coverage or shadowing.
