Amos - With Great Truth Comes Great Responsibility

The prophet Amos delivers a sobering message to a people who possessed great truth but lived with little reverence for the God who revealed it. In this sermon, we will walk primarily through the book of Amos and consider the weight of accountability that comes with divine revelation. God’s covenant people were not judged for ignorance, but for willful rebellion against clearly revealed truth. To set the tone for Amos’s warning, Hebrews 10:26–31 will be read, reminding us that persistent sin in the face of truth invites fearful judgment, not because God is unjust, but because He is holy. Amos 4:13 will also be read, lifting our eyes to the majesty, power, and authority of the God who speaks—and before whom all men must give account. This message confronts both ancient Israel and the modern church with a timeless reality: privilege increases responsibility, and hearing truth without obedience is a dangerous place to stand.
