The terrain of the route was a combination of moorland and woodland paths and tracks, a path beside a brook, plus a short road section and some access tracks. The walking was mostly easy on level or undulating ground with gradual slopes except for one moderate descent and one steep ascent. Route finding was easy with obvious paths, good waymarking and good landmarks. There was 1 stile to negotiate. Along the walk you visit: Longshaw Country Park and White Edge Moor; Oak's Wood, Upper Padley with Grindleford Station, Totley Tunnel entrance, Padley Mill and Padley Chapel; Padley Gorge with Burbage Brook; Granby Wood and back to Longshaw Country Park. Scenery includes: a variety of woodlands, including a fabulous woodland with scattered moss covered boulders and mossy trees alongside Burbage Brook; a low gritstone edge overlooking the open parkland; open moorland and White Edge Lodge; superb view of Burbage Rocks Escarpment; a lovely pond with water fowl at the edge of woodland; the entrance to Totley Tunnel and Grindleford Station; Padley Mill and Padley Chapel. I did this walk with my wife Anne whilst on a Derbyshire Peak District walking holiday during January 2020. We drove from our holiday accommodation in Baslow, Derbyshire to the starting location of the Longshaw Estate National Trust (pay and display) car park, Derbyshire, grid reference SX 266 800, which was also the start location of the walk.
