Robotic arms and suction grippers are a reliable way to transport sheet-like materials like composite prepreg fabrics in various industries, including automotive and aerospace. However, flexible sheets of varying size and shape often require a unique robot or end effector for transport, leading to increased costs and cycle times. To alleviate this, we have developed a suction gripper that can rapidly reconfigure itself to accommodate multiple sheet shapes. Our design leverages the motion of a robotic arm to accurately reposition suction cups along linear tracks in a timely manner.
