After days of trekking and climbing in the stunning Himalayas, bad weather rolled in — and I found myself grounded in Lukla, one of the world’s most notorious airports. As clouds thickened and rain persisted, flights were canceled, I had to make a quick decision… and that’s when the heli-lift option became the only way out! It was a case of perfect timing, thousands of trekkers and climbers were stranded in Lukla for upto 5 days, some even having to cancel their expeditions. A day later, further up the Khumbu valley, a helicopter crashed in a whiteout whilst slow speed maneuvering. Luckily only the Captain was on board and he walked away with negligible injuries. This just shows how harsh the himalayas can be and how dangerous the weather can get. Heli travel is not without risk! In this video, join me as I show flight footage from Lukla to Kathmandu: ✅ The reality of flying by helicopter out of the Everest region ✅ My experience as an adventurer over 50 facing lifting out of the world's most notorious airport Whether you’re an Everest Base Camp trekker, climber, or a mature explorer, or someone who loves real travel adventure stories, this video shows you the raw beauty — and the real risks — of high-altitude travel in Nepal. 👣 Travel doesn’t slow down after 50 — it just gets wiser, wilder, and more rewarding. 00:00 Crossing Lukla Helipad 00:53 Pre-flight checks 02:23 Lift Off From Lukla Helipad 02:43 Leaving Lukla Airstrip 03:25 Flying through the lukla foothills 05:40 Flying over Terraced Nepalese Farms 07:36 Handrailing the River Valley 08:00 Happy Heli Passengers 08:20 Patchwork Quilt and Paths 08:33 The nod of Satisfaction 09:38 Flight Instrument Panel 10:11 Flying over Kathmandu City Outskirts 13:24 Kathmandu Airport Approach 14:00 Landing at Kathmandu Helipad If you enjoy the video, please: 👍 Like 💬 Comment (Tell me your next adventure!) ✅ Subscribe for more adventurous journeys for the over-50s #islandpeak #everestbasecamp #kalapatthar #KhumbuValley #nepaltrekking #highaltitude #alpineclimbing #over50adventures #endurancetraining #nevertoolate #adventuretravel #summitsuccess #himalayas #mountaineeringlife #helicopter #helicoptercrash #travel #adventurechallenge #himalayas #over50adventures #luklaairport #kathmandu #helicoptertakeoff #helipilot #mountainflying #whiteknuckle #exciting To support the channel subscribe to www.youtube.com/ @Rag-venturediaries Music credit: creatormix.com Facebook: https://www.facebook.com/profile.php?...
