Let's row together for 25 minutes. No shouting, no pressure—just a steady rhythm and a bit of a chat. In today's row, I'm sharing my "origin story"—and spoiler alert: I wasn't born an athlete. I talk about growing up as the kid who preferred drums to sports, the difference between my Mum's social skills and mine (she could make friends in an empty room!), and the Saturday Night Rituals that defined my childhood. Question of the Day: What was YOUR childhood "Saturday Treat"? Let me know in the comments! What we're chatting about today: Why I'm here (and why I'm not shouting at you) The glorious era of Tunnock's Tea Cakes & Animal Biscuits How a drum kit accidentally saved me from becoming a very large teenager My Mum's packet of Malboro hundreds and her throne at parties Why I run out of chat in pubs but can waffle on a rowing machine for hours The workout: This is a steady-state session. We're aiming for about 5,000 meters, but the goal is TIME, not distance. If you need to stop at 15 or 20 minutes, that's a win. I'm rowing at around 19-20 strokes per minute on the Exergame Sentinel Spin course—you can row at whatever pace works for you. Technique covered: Machine setup that actually matters (especially foot strap height) The handle release sequence that changes everything Why your arms need to stay straight at the front How to stop tugging on the straps (I even take my feet out to prove it) This week's theme: I'm telling you how I got from being a pudgy 10-year-old who ran home at lunch to save his dinner money, to someone who rows 5K every day and makes these workouts. Today's just chapter one—tomorrow we continue with how drumming led to actual exercise. About the waffle: Yes, I talk a lot. That's the point. These rows are about company, not perfection. If you want someone shouting at you, I've got hundreds of other workouts. But if you just want to not row alone? Press play. About EXR: I'm using their Sentinel Spin coursebecause it's nicer to look at than data while I'm telling my story. No stretching today (my quads are still angry from Saturday's parkrun), but there's about 9 hours of stretching videos in the library. I recommend: quads, glutes, shoulders, forearms, hamstrings.
