"A child does not have to be taught how to be happy or the ways of love. It is fear, hatred, and prejudice that have to be taught." - Unknown “Beware that, when fighting monsters, you yourself do not become a monster... for when you gaze long into the abyss. The abyss gazes also into you.” - Friedrich W. Nietzsche Okay so here is vid number 2! Obviously, it's one of the 3 Merlin vids meaning that are 2 still waiting to be released along with another vid from a different fandom. Anyways, I'd really been wanting to do a Uther and Morgana vid for a while. I always enjoyed watching their relationship unfold (from Morgana being the only one who ever questioned him, to her being terrified of him, to her then wanting him dead). I particularly love this conversation between them (maybe it will show up in a vid of mine one day). Morgana: You have blood on your hands, Uther Pendragon! Blood that will never wash off! Uther: May I remind you that you're speaking to your King. Morgana: May I remind you that a king is wise and just. You are neither. You rule only with the sword. Uther: You know nothing of what it means to be King. The fate of Camelot rests in my hands. It's my responsibility to protect the people of this land from its enemies. Morgana: Then the kingdom is doomed! For one by one you make enemies of us all! Uther: You speak treason, Morgana. Morgana: Only a mad man hears the truth as treason. Uther: Take care, child, or I'll have you restrained. Morgana: You just try. I enjoy this, not only because Morgana is calling Uther out (and for the obvious foreshadowing), but because the same things that Morgana says about Uther could be applied to herself later in the series (particularly the 5th season). It is just plain sad how alike they truly are in some ways. Uther's fear of magic (perhaps some jealousy too? Not much is really known about this and it's been too long since I watched the episode where it was discussed) turned to hatred after the death of his wife (despite it being his fault for not asking the terms of what it would mean to conceive a child. A life for a life is pretty typical) and corrupted him. Morgana's fear of Uther (due to his cruelty and fear of the consequences over the possibility of him discovering her own magical powers) turned to hatred of him and corrupted her. I think it also should be noted that Morgana did feel sad over Uther's death in her own way (despite having arranged it herself). Things could have been so different, I think, if he had just told her that she was his daughter when she asked (indirectly) instead of, essentially, rejecting her. Not to mention my own perfect world scenario which I will go into now. In perfect world ahem cough *steps onto podium*, Merlin would have helped Morgana with her powers and taught her not to be afraid of them or herself. She would have eventually come out to Uther (somehow probably by accident) and he would have learned to stop hating magic (along with Arthur, who probably would have come around a LOT sooner than Uther and most likely would have found out first). Darn you Merlin!. In this world I am also painfully naive, but I try ;) So that's it, long commentary done. Hope you enjoy the vid!
