Army Objects to Mamata’s Fort William Remark, Seeks Governor’s Intervention

After a recent face-off with the Enforcement Directorate, West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee is set for another confrontation—this time with the Indian Army. The Army has raised strong objections to Mamata Banerjee’s January 13 remarks, in which she allegedly suggested that a serving Army commandant at Fort William was assisting the BJP by participating in the Special Intensive Revision (SIR) process. Army officials said the comments, made without naming the officer, question the neutrality and constitutional role of the armed forces. A formal written complaint has been submitted to Governor C.V. Ananda Bose at Lok Bhavan, seeking his intervention. Two senior Army generals met the Governor last week, conveying the seriousness of the issue.
