An Uber driver has told a Nairobi court how he unknowingly transported the first accused person in a high-stakes case involving the alleged sale of 997 rounds of ammunition. Titus Kipng’eno Rono testified that on 25 September 2025, he picked up Isaac Kipngetich from Rubis Likoni Road Petrol Station after receiving a trip request through the Uber app. He said the passenger boarded his white Toyota Passo carrying a black bag whose contents he did not check. While heading towards Uhuru Highway, traffic forced him to stop — moments later, two men who identified themselves as police officers approached the vehicle, handcuffed both the driver and passenger, and took them to Integrity House along Milimani Road for questioning. Rono told the court he had no knowledge that the black bag allegedly contained ammunition. He was later released, but his car was detained for about two months. According to the charge sheet, Isaac Kipngetich and five co-accused — Wesley Sang, Cyrus Ileli Kisamwa, Samson Murithi Mutongu, Charles Lotira Ekidor and Paul Kipketer Tonui — are charged with engaging in organised criminal activity contrary to the Prevention of Organised Crimes Act, 2010. The prosecution alleges that the six men were involved in the sale of 997 rounds of 5.56×45mm ammunition suitable for use in an M16 rifle to criminal gangs operating in Turkana County for financial gain. The driver’s testimony now places the first accused at the centre of the alleged transaction on the material day.
