Long before the age of celebrity weddings and international tourism, one Yorkshire church had already made its mark — with visions, miracles, royal births… and a rather grisly relic. Selby Abbey may not draw the crowds of its neighbour York Minster, but step inside and you’ll find almost 1,000 years of incredible stories carved into its walls. Founded by a French monk with a dream of three swans, it’s witnessed the birth of a king, survived the wrath of Henry VIII, endured fire and collapse — and come back stronger each time. In this episode, we uncover the stories hidden inside one of England’s most overlooked medieval treasures. From ancient carvings to mysterious symbols, wartime legends to Victorian drama, and a stained glass window with a possible link to the Stars and Stripes… this is far more than just another old church.
