A playthrough of the unplayable character Deadly Alliance Raiden/DA Raiden/Light Raiden in the PS2 version of Midway’s/Netherrealm’s Mortal Kombat Deception. The Deadly Alliance version of Raiden returns in Konquest Mode. This time Raiden has decided to Remain In Light, so this version of Raiden is usually referred to as Light Raiden, to contrast his dark, vengeful variant who is unlockable. To put it simply, he can be your angle (sic), or your devil. So, DA Raiden is pretty interesting. Despite having special moves in the game, he can’t use them because they’re only activated by an AI flag, similar to the early Mortal Kombat games. The announcer says his name and he has Dark Raiden’s movesets. Hell, the game even puts him into the fatality state after a match, although he can’t actually input any. As a result, it appears that they literally did just build on top of Deadly Alliance Raiden in order to create Dark Raiden, which really isn’t much of a surprise to anyone. He’s as competent as Raiden can be without his trademark specials (which is to say, quite a lot) and I certainly had fun playing as him. You’re not missing out on much if you don’t play as him, though. Next up, some of the original characters from Deadly Alliance get another look in.
