Considered to be the first published detection of dual TERT mutations in thyroid cancer, this case underscores the importance of genomic testing in identifying rare genetic profiles that can significantly influence patient care. Through Veracyte’s Afirma Genomic Sequencing Classifier, further analysis and verification uncovered the BRAFV600E mutation alongside both C228T and C250T TERT promoter mutations, highlighting the value of comprehensive genomic analysis. Following surgery, the patient received radioactive iodine therapy, with follow-up results showing no detectable cancer and undetectable thyroglobulin levels three months post-treatment, signaling a highly effective response.
