In this Research Connections talk, we hear from Maryam Hosseini, assistant professor, University of California, Berkeley. Much of urban life remains unmapped, from sidewalks and crossings to subtle spatial patterns linked to accessibility and heat exposure, limiting our ability to plan at the human scale. Hosseini's research tackles this gap by designing open-source tools and frameworks that combine computer vision, machine learning, and computational geometry to extract critical urban features from imagery and open data. In this talk, she’ll share how open-source tools can enable a more complete, analyzable, and actionable view of cities – one grounded in how people actually move through and experience urban space. This talk is sponsored by Bon Aseniero, Principal Research Scientist at Autodesk Research, and is part of our Encoding Experience Series. The Autodesk Research Connections Speaker Series highlights exciting work from academic and industry experts about the possible futures of design and make.
