Thomas Gronnemark is a professional throw-in coach who has been part of 15 titles international football, and coached teams like Liverpool FC, Ajax, Flamengo, Philadelphian Union, the English national team, Dortmund and many other teams. Together with Liverpool FC Thomas Gronnemark won the Premier League and Champions League titles. Thomas is coaching after his "Long, Fast and Clever Throw-in philosophy", and the throw-in training in the clubs are made in three different levels - the throw-in basics - the throw-in small sided games - the throw-in zonal drills. Thomas Gronnemark throw-in coaching has been giving his clubs a big advantage: - In the last 5 seasons he coached FC Midtjylland they scored 46 goals on long throw-ins. - Last season when he coached Brentford FC they were the best long throw-in team in the Premier League. Thomas also improves the team’s ability to keep possession on throw-ins and score goals after throw-in situations all over the pitch: - Thomas Gronnemark spend 5 seasons in Liverpool FC together with Jürgen Klopp, and he took Liverpool from number 18 in the Premier League on throw-ins under pressure (where the players are marked) with a possession on 45,4% to number 1 in the Premier League with a possession on 68,4%. This was shown with data from Tifo football. - In those 5 seasons Thomas spend with LFC they scored 10-15 goals pr. season after throw-in situations. Those goals didn´t come from the long throw-in, but from the fast and clever throw-in. Thomas Gronnemark has also promoted with teams like Toulouse FC, Kolding and Royale Union Saint¬-Gilloise. When Thomas is working with his players long throw-in technique he is focusing on 30 different technical parameters. Most of his players improve 5-15 meters with a more efficient technique. Some of the players he has coached are: - Mads Bech (AC Horsens, Brentford FC, FC Midtjylland) who improved from 34 meters to 40,80 meters. - Andreas Poulsen (FC Midtjylland): from 24,25 to 37,90 meters - Sargon Duran (Austria): from 25 meters to 40 meters - Andy Robertson (Liverpool FC): From 19,80 meter to 27,00 meters. One of Thomas Gronnemark´s main focus areas is team space creation when the team has a throw-in. Many outfield players don´t move, or only do individual space creation. In the throw-in coaching from Thomas the players learn how to create space in many different ways, so they can use their own creativity to form areas where the thrower can throw into. There is often a lot of focus on possession on throw-ins, but the risk reward factor is also very important. If you do a low risk - high reward throw-in - for example behind the opponent’s defense - then it can be a really good risk to take. If performed well those throw-ins will often lead to chances or goals, and if they don´t succeed you can also pressure the opponents in those areas. Thomas Gronnemark is also working with the defending of the opponents throw-ins. He works with different pressure, defending throw-in tools, defending long throw-ins, and different defending throw-in strategies.
