Today, we have a small claims hearing with a couple of first time renters who are suing their former landlord of 7 months for the return of the $1K that was withheld from their security deposit. They say the landlord withheld that money in bad faith because there was no actual “damage” to the furniture and anything that did need fixing was just normal wear and tear. The landlord claims she’s been renting out places for 25 years so she knows what she’s doing. She says not only did she properly withhold $1K for the original damage, but she and her lawyer have also filed a counterclaim asking for an addition $1277 in damages that she says were only discovered after the moved out.
