Its beautifully preserved historic centre, crowned by the iconic Český Krumlov Castle, is a designated UNESCO World Heritage Site since 1992 — and it’s easy to see why. Walking through its narrow cobbled streets feels like stepping back in time, surrounded by authentic Gothic, Renaissance, and Baroque architecture. Thanks to its location on the Vltava River, this area has been continuously inhabited for thousands of years. Archaeological finds date back to the Older Stone Age (as early as 70,000 BC!), with Bronze Age settlements around 1500 BC, Celtic tribes in the Iron Age, and Slavic settlers arriving by the 6th century AD. In medieval times, important trade routes passed through this region. The castle's story begins around 1250, when it was founded by the powerful Vítkovci noble family. The town was first mentioned in documents in 1253 under the name Chrumbenowe. It grew in two parts: Latrán, settled beneath the castle by people connected to its administration, and the Old Town, later established as a planned urban area. After the Vítkovci line died out in 1302, King Wenceslaus II handed over the estate to the influential Rosenberg family. Under their rule, Český Krumlov flourished. Peter I of Rosenberg, chamberlain to King John of Bohemia, expanded the upper castle, and in the 15th century, Oldřich II of Rosenberg brought the region to new heights of prosperity. The Rosenbergs supported local trade and crafts, and when gold was discovered near the town in the late 1400s, German miners settled here, bringing even more life and diversity. By the mid-1500s, William of Rosenberg unified the two parts of town and rebuilt the castle in a grand Renaissance style, giving Český Krumlov much of the charm it still holds today. https://goo.gl/maps/BL2C2VGSTU6LoM4B7 Join the membership of the channel: / @perceptionphilosophy Instagram: / perceptionphilosophy Recorded in 4k Perception Philosophy © 2025 The 12th of April 2025 Czech Republic
