Peleliu The Point Battlefield Tour

On September 15, 1944 the Marines would storm the beaches of Peleliu to capture the island from the Japanese forces that occupied it. The battle would be one of the most hard fought battles of World War II and it began here on the Beaches of Peleliu. Here on White Beach one the fighting would become deadly before the Marines even made it ashore. At the end of White Beach one- at what would be know as the Point, Japanese bunkers fire enfiladed the entire beach knocking out LVTs as they approached the shoreline and machine gun fire raked the beaches.
