Many First Nations in BC are concerned about the economic impacts that have – and will continue to – impact communities. We are grateful to Kukpi7 Christian for raising some specific concerns and requesting a to discuss the economic and business impacts that the COVID-19 crisis is having on the Secwepemc Nation. As these questions could impact many First Nations, the First Nations Public Service Secretariat is pleased to host a mini-town hall between Secwepemc leadership, Indigenous Services Canada and the provincial Ministry of Jobs, Economic Development and Competitiveness. In particular, Kukpi7 Christian said, “The major concern is that the economic package outlined by PM Trudeau does not apply to our communities or does it? We as communities contribute to the local economies in our territory. We need clarification and like all Canadians answers in this time of uncertainty as the pandemic continues to roll out from coast to coast to coast.” This discussion will address this question and many others. Speakers: Councillor Jeanette Jules Councillor: Title and Rights, Legal (Day Scholars, DRI) and Community Services Tk’emlúps te Secwépemc Greg Booth Director, Indigenous Economic Opportunity Secretariat to the Indigenous Business and Investment Council Investment, Innovation and Technology Division Ministry of Jobs, Economic Development and Competitiveness Bill Guerin Associate Regional Director General Indigenous Services Canada David S.
