or the timeline photographic events charter, fairburn tank No42073 was paired with a consist of 2 Red & Cream MK1 Coaches and a GWR Bauxite Box Van. Despite a weather warning for heavy rain was given by the met office by the day (and we found out why!) luckily, the weather cleared up and were able to get some better shots with the Loco and stock. The day had accidentally been double-booked, so the crew responsible for the charter was, in fact, a 'footplate experience course' participant! (Who still seemed to enoy his day). The charter is, so far, the only opportunity we've had to photograph train from the now defunct platform 2 at Lakeside, which made for some interesting shots. As newly-built, but with a boiler manufactured in 1946, 42073 spent its first three months working from Stewarts Lane Depot, Battersea, London before moving on to Ashford in Kent in February, 1951. Lately in that year she was sent to Dover for a short while before returning to Ashford again in 1952. In November 1954 she was transferred to the North Eastern Region and allocated to Gateshead. Probably her most famous moment occurred on the 19th April 1955 at Newcastle-on-Type, when, below the Norman Keep of the castle, she did battle with a Gresley V2 2-6-2 on the diamond crossing. They converged onto the same stretch of line and in the resulting collision the V2 fell onto its side. In 1957 she worked from Bradford and Sowerby Bridge; in 1958 from York and Neville Hill; in 1959 from Low Moor and Wakefield. At Copley Hill she was to have her longest stay from 1960 to 1964. In 1965 she was back at Low Moor again, and finally Normanton in June 1967, where she was joined for the first time by 42085, her stable mate at the Lakeside & Haverthwaite Railway.
