In this video, I am sharing a super delicious and comforting Ash Gourd Majjiga Pulusu (Buttermilk Curry) made in authentic grandma style. This is an ancient traditional Telugu recipe that is simple, healthy, and full of homely flavors. First, fresh ash gourd pieces are chopped and kept aside. A smooth coconut paste is prepared using fresh coconut pieces, soaked rice, cumin seeds, chana dal, and water. Then in a pan, oil is heated and green chilies are sautéed along with ash gourd pieces until soft and cooked well. Water is added and allowed to simmer gently. After that, turmeric and the freshly ground coconut paste are added and cooked for about 10 minutes until thick and aromatic. Salt is added and the flame is turned off before mixing in fresh, slightly sour buttermilk to give that perfect traditional taste. Finally, a flavorful tempering (tadka) is prepared with mustard seeds, dried red chilies, cumin seeds, and curry leaves, and poured on top. This Ancient Indian Telugu food tastes heavenly when mixed with hot rice and enjoyed with pickle on the side. It is a perfect comfort meal, especially during summer.
