Celtic XIII is one of seven new original pieces from Masquerade Music's Celtic Collage Volume 2 by Keri Degg. This much awaited sheet music publication (published September 2022) follows along from Celtic Collage which was published a whole ten year earlier. Although Celtic XIII starts with a slightly melancholy mood (almost a sigh reflecting on past paths travelled) we journey into a more optimistic section (just fairly briefly), before the sight sadness returns, leaving the story somewhat unfinished. There is a choice of standard, or ossia staff at one point for players who wish try a more challenge run. This particular video includes the ossia staff being played. The seven pieces in Celtic Collage Volume 2 are mostly inspired by Celtic and Folk music, but they also carry with them a film-like quality, and although we do occasionally feel the presence of a slight dark cloud (a theme that re-occurs through the book - a battle of dark and light perhaps?) Celtic Collage Volume 2 is ideal for developing intermediate players (around grades 4-6) and also includes some fun up-beat numbers and exciting mixed time signatures in addition to more thoughtful lyrical pieces that are great for expression and tone control.
