In late July 2024, Farrail returned to South Africa with an even more ambitious itinerary than before! In Part 1, we witnessed Class 25NC No. 3437, paired with its distinctive 'Worshond' tender, steaming along the Bloemfontein to Kimberley mainline. In Part 2, we follow Class 15F No. 2976 – now resplendent in the iconic black of South African Railways – as it hauls a chartered freight train between Bloemfontein and Marseilles. However, due to a combination of unforeseen, uniquely South African challenges and the struggles of No. 2976, the locomotive was only in steam for two days. Unfortunately, this caused delays to the remainder of the tour… Parts 3 and 4 coming soon! This remarkable achievement would not have been possible without the dedication of Bernd from Farrail, the New Cape Central Railway, and all the other stakeholders involved. Despite facing numerous obstacles, the sight of large steam locomotives traversing these historic tracks once more is truly a triumph!
