Day two in Glacier National Park. Now we head into the heart of the park where it gets busy and crowded. We were able to get a vehicle reservation for 9am. So after admiring the views of the North Fork area from our cabin, we stopped in to the Polebridge Mercantile for breakfast. We got there when it opened at 7am. That gave us enough time to stop and film wildlife on the way to the Going to the Sun Road. Even had a little time to check out Apgar Village. Once on the world famous road we stopped to see McDonald Falls, before reaching the Trail of the Cedars trailhead. Our main hike for the day would be out to Avalanche Lake, which can be accessed via the Trail of Cedars. Both trails were nice and not as crowded as I expected. Honestly we never had trouble parking on this trip either. There were plenty of tourists but it was not overcrowded. I still end up using a lot of music in these "vacation" videos to cover up talking, either ours or someone else's. The gorge created by Avalanche Creek where you start the trail to lake is gorgeous, as is the lake itself, surrounded by mountains. The clouds made it extra nice and thankfully didn't rain on us too bad. I mean, it rained every day of this trip, but overall it was manageable, even with all the cameras. When we finished the hike it was time for more scenic stops along the GTTS Rd. There were lots of amazing mountain views, waterfalls, and lakes to see from the road. We made stops at Sunrift Gorge, Logan Pass, Paradise Meadow, Oberlin Bend, Jackson Glacier Overlook, Rising Sun Picnic Area, and Wild Goose Island Overlook which was a must-do for us fans of The Shining. We stayed at the Rising Sun Motor Inn for the next two nights. After dinner this night we hiked a little ways up the Rose Creek Trail that leads to Otokomi Lake. We didn't go that far. There was actually a rescue taking place while we were up on this steep remote trail. Seeing someone injured to the point they couldn't get back down was sad but the process was interesting. It was on this trail we found a grouse. My first ever. Also saw my first Steller Jay at Avalanche Lake. There was also a Great Blue Heron there. The ground squirrels were mainly at Paradise Meadow near the Weeping Wall, as well as at Oberlin Bend along the boardwalk. One is probably from the Logan Pass Visitors Center too. Other small birds we found at the Picnic Area and in the Gorge. I realized some were Cedar Waxwings when I got home. Pretty cool looking birds.
