I used a PTO day on Friday May 5th with intentions of the boys and myself chasing the New York, Susquehanna & Western Railway's SU-99 road freight west from Ridgefield Park, NJ. Well, a week before the planned chase, word got out that the NYSW Mill Rift Bridge over the Delaware River was deemed unfit for use and emergency repairs were needed, abolishing the road freight pair for a month. While initially disappointing, it seemed a trip north would still be worth our time. The NYSW would be running a turn to Sparta, NJ to run cars to and from the yard, as well their typical switching activities. Also very nice, the NYSW's two most recently painted units out of the Butler, NJ shops were trapped on the Southern Division in local service, NYSW SD70M-2 4060, an ex Norfolk Southern unit in its fresh new coat of yellow and black, and NYSW SD40-2 3024, recently painted into the railroad's sharp silver scheme of the 1950's. We managed a quick chase of the NYSW WS-1 job returning from Sparta to Ridgefield Park with the SD70M-2, as well as WS-2 working a Brick customer with the sharp heritage scheme 3024 before finishing off in Ridgefield Park with the WS-1 finishing their day up. Enjoy the video!
