A powerful winter storm continues to impact California, with 7 to 8 feet of snow possible in the Sierra Nevada as winter storm warnings remain in effect. Travel in the mountains is extremely difficult at times, with intermittent highway closures on Highways 50 and 80 a real concern today and tonight. Snow is falling down to lower elevations, while heavy rainfall continues across parts of the coast and valleys. We are also tracking localized flash flood advisories, especially near Point Conception, where rainfall rates can be intense at times. There is a brief break ahead, but this pattern is far from over. More storms are lining up for early next week, so we’ll keep our eyes on the horizon. In this update, we break it all down using computer forecast models, satellite imagery, radar, and live cameras to give you the full picture — what’s happening now, what’s coming next, and what it means for travel, safety, and water supply across California.
