Cricket has always been in the tight grips of men in Pakistan. What loosens it, is a story that narrates a lifetime of toils: laboriously going against the current of the gender-exclusive sport. The way Marina Iqbal stood resilient throughout while tackling the harsh weather of society not only brought her the “red cherry” in the palm of her hands but in the field of cricket commentary. This brings us to the question: are dreams really gendered? Of course not, what pushes you to take the first step is passion, a passion to astound with what the world has never witnessed before. Marina Iqbal is a cricketer, having played as a bowler and a bats-woman for Pakistan’s Women Cricket team all over the world while being a gold medalist in the 2010 Asian Games, hosted by China. After her career on the pitch, she has become Pakistan’s first female commentator, maintaining a sturdy grasp on the mic amidst the voices of men. She has led 36 ODIs and 42 T-20 Internationals from 2009-2017. She has finished her career with 800 runs and ten wickets. By making her way into sports commentator-ship, she has become the pioneering sports commentator to open for Pakistani women.
