VN24 - 29-11-2024 (D/M/Y) - Lippetal B475 / Germany - This accident could almost have turned into an absolute horror scenario. Just one bus stop before, the driver of a school bus had let the last group of children off when this serious accident occurred. Coming out of a side road (Sandweg), the driver of the bus apparently intended to turn left onto the B475 federal highway in a southbound direction when a silo truck approached from the left, which was traveling northbound on the B475 federal highway between the towns of Oestringhausen and Hultrop. However, the school bus drove off and crossed the road. This left the 30-year-old driver of the truck with no chance of braking in time. The truck drove sideways into the bus, pushing it about 20 meters in front of it. The sturdy roof construction of the modern bus pushed the upper part of the cab backwards, trapping the 30-year-old in his cab. It took the fire fighters more than two and a half hours to free the driver from his position. He was taken to hospital by ambulance with very serious injuries. The injuries were initially life-threatening, but he is on the way to rehabilitation. A rescue helicopter had previously landed at the scene to dispatch an emergency doctor. The bus driver himself sustained minor injuries.
