This video shows the scenes at one of Barcelona's wine regions called Pla De Bages. Red grape varietals that grow in this region include Mandó, Sumoll, Picapoll Negre, Garnatxa Negra, Ull de llebre, Merlot, Cabernet Sauvignon, Cabernet Franc, and Syrah. White grape varietals include Macabeu / Viura, Parellada, Picapoll Blanc, Chardonnay, Sauvignon Blanc, Gewürtztraminer, and Malvasía. We visited Oller de Mas for lunch and wine tastings. This trip is a must see, must do while in Barcelona, Spain. The Pla de Bages is a small but distinctive wine region in central Catalonia, set between rolling hills and framed by the dramatic silhouette of Montserrat mountain. Located just north of Barcelona near the town of Manresa, the area has a long winemaking history that dates back to Roman times, even though it remains one of Catalonia’s lesser-known appellations. Historically, Pla de Bages was one of the most productive wine regions in the 19th century. Its landscape is still dotted with hundreds of dry-stone “tines”—cylindrical vineyard huts and fermentation tanks built directly among the vines—silent reminders of a once-thriving rural wine culture. The region suffered severe decline after the phylloxera plague, and modern revival efforts only began in the late 20th century. Officially recognized as a Denominació d’Origen (DO Pla de Bages) in 1997, the region focuses on quality over quantity. Its continental climate—with hot days, cool nights, and mountain influences—gives wines freshness and aromatic intensity. Soils are typically clay and limestone, helping vines retain moisture during dry summers. Pla de Bages is especially known for reviving Picapoll, a native white grape that produces fresh, elegant wines with notes of apple, citrus, and herbs, often with a subtle mineral edge. Red wines, made from varieties such as Mandó, Sumoll, Tempranillo, and international grapes, tend to be balanced and expressive rather than heavy. Today, Pla de Bages appeals to wine lovers seeking authenticity: a quiet, historic region where Catalan tradition, landscape, and modern craftsmanship come together in the shadow of Montserrat. #ilovespain #spain #travelspain #explorespain #spaintravel #TravelVlog #Vlog #Travel #europetravel #winetasting #foodvlog #foodie #spainwinetasting #barcelonatravel #travelbarcelona #explorebarcelona #visitbarcelona Created by a Filipino traveler, Filipino vlogger. #filipinotraveler #filipinovlogger
