Every costume starts with a great shape and the perfect pattern. Hank Cubitt is Senior Costumier and has worked at the ballet for 12 years. Hank is an expert with the cutting machine, cutting out most of the gorgeous fabrics you’ll see onstage in The Sleeping Beauty. With perhaps 20 pattern pieces in each of the 170 costumes in this production, Hank is an indispensable member of the costume team. SPOILER: Don't worry - he doesn't cut his hand off! The cutting machine blade is at the back of the machine and has a frame to protect the blade. Hank has decades of experience and is well trained in using this equipment.
