The world premiere performance of "The Miraculous Tale," a work for alto saxophone and derabucca (Egyptian goblet drum), by the Egyptian-born American composer Halim El-Dabh (b. 1921). The work is in three movements: Lightning, Tenderness, and Stratosphere. The saxophonist is Ken Radnofsky (professor of saxophone at the New England Conservatory, The Boston Conservatory, and the Longy School of Music) and the derabucca player is Takaaki Masuko (professor of percussion at the Longy School of Music). The performance was recorded at Distler Performance Hall, Granoff Music Center, Tufts University, Medford, Massachusetts on March 4, 2007 (the 86th birthday of Halim El-Dabh). The concert was organized by Tufts University music professor John McDonald, and filmed by Tufts's teleproductions department. The work was commissioned by World-Wide Concurrent Premieres & Commissioning Fund, Inc. of Arlington, Massachusetts (Ken Radnofsky, Executive Director), with over 30 saxophonists participating in this group commission, each of whom will present a local premiere of the work between March 2007 and March 2008. http://www.kenradnofsky.com/wwcp/inde...
