A disability advocate’s point of view on the movie, “Me Before You” I had been wanting to share my feelings about this movie for some time, but I didn’t know how to approach it because I know people have mixed feelings about the movie, and specifically how it ended. I finally got a chance to sit down and discuss it. I talk about suicide, ableism, and disability. The disabled community was outraged over this movie saying that it portrays having a disability as tragic, that disabled lives are not worth living. This movie is a deeply emotional movie, and often discussed for its romantic and controversial themes around disability, love, and end- of life decisions. This movie has been out for several years, and now with people discovering “Me Before You” It genuinely gets dangerous for the disabled community because it might sway people to think this way that disabled lives are not worth living. We have a lot of abilities as well! Our lives are more challenging than a typical person's life but I can say with complete confidence that I can do so many things and I am grateful that I was born! It might look different to some, but that’s ok. Please don’t listen to this dangerous message in me before you” We are all wonderfully made! Enjoy the video!
