Video portfolio sample. This is a sample of a corporate-industrial training video written in 1985 by John-Michael Battaglia for Amdahl Corporation as part of a video training course on X.25, an internationally established telecommunications protocol standard that defines how network connections between user devices, like computers, are established and maintained. To most human beings, this material is very technical, very complex, and very boring. Maybe not even watchable. It is essentially an introductory slide show to the X.25 packet-switching technology saved and distributed as a self-contained video piece, with a narrator added to fill in the holes and to smooth out the transitions. As only one element of the telecommunications course, this video excerpt does NOT present the complete range of course materials offered on the subject, but a few computer geeks might find something of interest here. The "production value" of this video is minimal. The writer had no role or responsibility in shooting, casting, or directing. He was brought in at the last minute only as a "script doctor" to write narration accompanying a set of Aurora graphics that were 90% completed at the time he was asked to be involved —all of which is probably a lesson in itself to make sure a script-writer is involved at the beginning of a project, not at the end! Amdahl Corporation (now part of Fujitsu) retains the copyright: the writer was granted the customary artist's right to show his portfolio copy to prospective clients and employers as a work sample. This digitization of the original video production is merely being hosted on Google's servers so that the digital file may be linked to the writer's portfolio web site at www.galileoii.com in order to provide new, potential clients with a cost-effective opportunity to view this video as a sample of his work. No other use is intended or authorized. Amdahl Corporation Writer: John-Michael Battaglia Corporate Production: Amdahl
