In This Series: Effective Bible Study aims to illuminate the character of God’s Word and provide students with a hands-on approach to develop the skills essential for personal exploration of God’s Book. 2 Timothy 3:16-17 serve as a powerful source of motivation and guidance: All scripture is given by inspiration of God, and is profitable for doctrine, for reproof, for correction, for instruction in righteousness: That the man of God may be perfect, throughly furnished unto all good works. 2 Timothy 3:16 opens our eyes to the nature and purpose of God’s Word. As we open it, we must remember that it emanates directly from God. While we understand that God breathed his Word, he didn’t reveal all the intricate details of the process. Instead, he utilized prophets to communicate his revelation. He engaged in conversations with them and safeguarded them from error in conveying his truth. This protection ensures that we receive the Word without any errors, instilling in us unwavering confidence in its authenticity. We can literally hold the message from God in our hands! The God who authored the Word also determines its appropriate use. This is undoubtedly an author’s prerogative. In this case, God desires us to utilize his revelation for four specific purposes: teaching, reproof, correction, and instruction in righteousness. As we diligently apply these principles, God’s Word will empower us to undertake all good works.
