Dialectical Behavior Therapy is an awesome intervention that can help people who often feel out of control get back in control and live a life worth living. It is my favorite intervention under the sun and one I thoroughly enjoy teaching! This video goes over a skill in the Interpersonal Effectiveness Module. We cover the importance of figuring out the goal from our interaction with another person. We learn that there are three things to consider with every interaction we have with another person: 1. How important achieving something or saying no to something is. 2. How important the relationship is. 3. How important our principles and values are. Each interaction is different and so we need to place these three things in a hierarchy BEFORE the interaction so we have a goal of what we would like to achieve.
