Hi there, I hope you’re doing well. In this video, I’m going to show you how you can create your own AI assistants with a knowledge base using the RAG Assistant Chrome extension. You’ll learn how to build multiple assistants, upload documents, create embeddings, and chat with your own data directly inside your browser. As you can see in this video, I already have multiple assistants created. Some assistants are connected to a knowledge base, and some are not. The assistants with a knowledge base can answer questions directly from uploaded documents like PDFs, manuals, FAQs, and product documentation. This makes it extremely useful for customer support, internal documentation, product knowledge bots, and personal research assistants. To get started, you first need to install the RAG Assistant extension. Simply go to the Chrome Web Store, search for “RAG Assistant”, and add it to your browser. Once installed, click on the extension and select the option to create a new assistant. From here, you can fully customize your AI assistant. You can give your assistant any name you want, choose a color, and add a description so you remember what the assistant is used for. In this example, I created a Smartphone Assistant trained on smartphone-related knowledge base documents. This description is only for your own reference, but it helps when you manage multiple assistants. Next, you can select the AI model you want to use. You can choose ChatGPT, DeepSeek, Google models, Anthropic Claude, or any supported AI provider. You can also control the temperature setting. A lower temperature gives more accurate and factual responses, while a higher temperature produces more creative answers. For most use cases, 0.7 works perfectly. After that, you can define a system prompt. This is where you tell the AI how it should behave. In this video, the system prompt instructs the assistant to act as an expert smartphone AI assistant that answers questions strictly using the uploaded knowledge base documents. You can also set a welcome message that users will see when they start chatting with the assistant. One powerful feature shown in this video is Quick Actions. Quick actions allow you to define predefined prompt templates. For example, you can create a quick action that forces the assistant to always answer queries using the knowledge base. When selected, this prompt is automatically combined with the user’s question and sent to the AI, ensuring accurate document-based answers. Next, I uploaded multiple smartphone-related documents into the knowledge base. You can upload PDFs, text files, or even URLs. Once uploaded, the extension automatically creates embeddings and chunks the data so the AI can retrieve relevant information efficiently. After uploading, simply click “Save Sources” and then create the assistant. Once the assistant is created, you can start chatting with it immediately. In this video, I asked questions like battery replacement options, Wi-Fi disconnecting issues, phone performance problems, warranty coverage, feedback email address, battery life, data transfer steps, and wireless charging support. Every answer was fetched directly from the uploaded documents, ensuring accuracy and consistency. You can also view the full prompt sent to the AI, including which document chunks were used and their relevance scores. This transparency helps you understand exactly how the AI is generating responses from your knowledge base. Another powerful feature demonstrated is chatting with the assistant directly from the sidebar while browsing any website. Whether you’re on Google, Fast.com, or any product page, you can open the sidebar, switch to your assistant, and ask questions. The assistant will still answer using the same uploaded documents, even if you make spelling mistakes or incomplete queries. There are two main ways to chat with your assistant. You can either use the full chat interface by clicking the chat button, or you can use the sidebar mode while working on any website. Both methods give you access to the same knowledge base and assistant behavior. This makes RAG Assistant perfect for building custom AI assistants for documentation, FAQs, manuals, customer support, internal teams, and personal knowledge bases.
