I have been asked many times what I think about AI therapy and I have finally answered the question. In many ways the jury is out, but there is no doubt in mind that there is a hierarchy of emotional help and support. AI is at the bottom of this hierarchy and at the top is therapy with a well trained and experienced wise human being. There are all sorts of options in between, but you should always ask yourself how you can get the best support in the most affordable way. Low cost therapy with trainee therapists is for instance far preferable to chatbot therapy, because you will be speaking to an informed and truly interested human being who is doing their utmost to help you resolve your problems and become a fuller, more complete human being. Chatbots will just treat you like a number and will apply the same old ideas to you as to anyone else. Sometimes that may just be all you need.
