Project Search is a transition to work programme for young people with learning disabilities and autism spectrum conditions. The young people that comes to the programme with a really strong desire for work, and when you've got that desire, you can achieve anything. We've got some fabulously talented young people that really shine when you put them into the right work environment. I'm Toby and I'm 21 years old. I'm George I am 19 years old. My name is Arbarnna, I would like to become a receptionist. I'm Martin and I work in Estates and Facilities at the NHS. My name is Hanzalah I do bed busting, cleaning beds Tell me who you are. Connor And what do you do? Anything. Anything!? Yes. I suppose the challenge that I would place upon organisations is that you think about these young people in terms of the strengths that they bring to your organisation and think about some of the absolute no brainer business reasons to do this in terms of individuals who have an absolute strong work ethic, a commitment to want to work, an absolute attention to detail in terms of a rigor of their works. So in terms of the quality of what they'll bring to your work, that's absolutely there. These are people who've been told that they will not get a job since they started school, they've had that message. To prove that message wrong and to see them be successful in Project Search is just fantastic. I think a good business should help people with autism, disability, and dyslexic traits. Don't stereotype. Everybody's different, and there is a job for everyone and if they can do it, why not? I'm just starting my 46-year of full-time employment, and in all those years, this is the most rewarding thing I've ever been involved in because this just doesn't change the lives of those young people, it changes the lives of their families. One of our young people had an experience of being almost non-verbal up to the age of about 20 and within a very short period of time being on the programme, mum reported that her son was coming home and was chatting for the first time. The impact that, that had on their family life in terms of how they saw their son developing was phenomenal. My mum, she's very, very happy. She told my grandma and granddad that I got a paid job and they were very happy. This Project’s helped me be more me!
