Sahithya commences her Arangetram with an invocatory piece consisting of verses from ShivAshtakam, in praise of lord Shiva. Lord Shiva, who has a garland of skull around the neck, who has a net of snakes around His body, Who is the destroyer of the immense-destroyer Kalan, Who is the lord of Ganesa, Whose matted-hair are spread-out by the presence of the waves of Ganga falling on His head. I pray to you, o Lord, who resides in the Himalayas and whose consort is goddess Parvati. This piece would be followed byAlarippu, a traditional piece that a Bharatanatyam dancer learns foremost. It is entirely based on rhythm and is done in three tempos. It has three basic postures of Bharatanatyam, Samapadam – the standing posture, Araimandi – the half bent posture and muzhumandi – full sitting posture Pushpanjali in Ragamalika and Alaripu in Misra Chapu
