Heartland PACE Indiana opens in Evansville

EVANSVILLE, Ind. (WEHT) -- Heartland PACE Indiana, a part-home and part-nursing home, opens on Monday aiming to provide care for seniors. It provides a day center for socializing, medicines, transportation and breakfast and lunch service. At the location on Walnut Street, you will find not only a new place for 55+ adults to socialize and find care, but you will also find Gloria Patton and her poetry. "Where do I go? I know not where. Into my head -- my heart and feeling. The silent stilness of death so appealing," Patton shares. "Why do I choose this prison inside. Where do I go? Why do I hide?" Patton is one of the handful of patients -- better known as participants -- starting today. Most of the patients have both Medicare and Medicaid, so they pay nothing. Managers say their center helps seniors safely age while staying in their homes. "Every participants is different -- each based on what their needs are -- what they need to keep out of the hospital, keep out of the nursing home, stay at home safely where most of us want to be," Operations Director Eric Ross says.
