We only got to spend about an hour with Janine, we could have chatted for many more. Her drive and determination to reinvent, remould and evolve was awe inspiring. Coach, fighter, champion, teacher, writer, all words that could be used to describe her, not one of them coming close to capturing the entirety of who she is. More inspiring still is Janine’s electric and infectious confidence to be unapologetically herself. Something very rare, especially when being interviewed on camera. It was such a joy getting to know Janine. We talked about resilience, liberation and breaking the confines of how we are perceived by our peers. A true warrior, it was an absolute pleasure getting the chance to speak with a world champion Thai boxer, and all round smashing human being. Her story is an ever changing and totally fascinating roller coaster, and Janine is living proof that we aren’t defined by our circumstances, but by how we choose to move past them, that we should never allow ourselves to be “pigeon holed” and refuse to bend to anyone’s expectations but our own.
