John Prine, the singing mailman, was born in 1946 and grew up in Maywood, IL... which is a township in the greater Chicago region. He got his first guitar at age 14, studied for a while at the Old Town School of Folk Music, which is when he began writing songs. He became a friend and contemporary of fellow notable Chicago native Steve Goodman and was an integral part of the Chicago folk scene during the late 1960s and beyond. He wrote several songs that have been recorded by other well known singers of his generation, including the songs Paradise, Angel From Montgomery and Sam Stone, along with several other well known tunes. He began his musical career playing shows in a very part-time fashion in small clubs around Chicago, while he made his living delivering mail, which apparently afforded him time to think about lyrics and melodies. Over time, he was doing well enough to quit his mail job and carried on with a very successful music and recording career for the next nearly 50 years. He was prolific and continued writing great songs until his unfortunate death in April of 2020, as a result of complications from Covid 19. This song, The Glory Of True Love, was written and released in 2005 and is very much self-explanatory. We hope you like it and if you do, please consider hitting the 'like' button and/or subscribing to our channel to help support what we're doing as we promote the great music of many of our musical heroes... such as John Edward Prine. This song features our drummer Rob Kneeland on lead vocals, Todd Roberton (bass) and Rick Watson (guitar) on harmony vocals and Bruce Derr on pedal steel. Thanks for watching and listening.
