Transcription of an excerpt from the middle section of “October 17, 1988” from Paris Concert by Keith Jarrett. The excerpt is from 16:10 to 22:57. The Paris Concert is one of Keith’s best, with the incredible long Bach-like improvisation at the beginning, moving into a hypnotic F-minor pulse that lasts for most of the concert. I was less familiar with this middle section that breaks up the F-minor vamp. The lovely motif at 19:40 (m. 49 in my score) was suggested as a transcription idea by someone in the comments, and I also liked the section before it at 17:35 (m. 23). I decided to transcribe a little before and after these sections to see how it fits into the long vamp. One of my favorite parts is the folk/Americana motif at m. 66-75, which reminds me of John Williams score for Lincoln or some of Thomas Newman’s work. I only wish that section were a little longer!
