Welcome to my latest video exploring the life and work of one of the most influential psychologists of the 20th century, B.F. Skinner. In this video, we'll take a deep dive into Skinner's fascinating life and explore his groundbreaking theories on operant conditioning. It includes pictures from Skinner's life and even a brief interview! Born in Pennsylvania in 1904, Skinner was fascinated with the human condition and considered becoming a novelist before he discovered an article about Benaviorism in psycholog. After earning his Ph.D. from Harvard, Skinner went on to become a professor at the University of Minnesota and later at Harvard, where he conducted groundbreaking research on animal behavior and the principles of reinforcement and punishment. Skinner's work on operant conditioning was a radical departure from the traditional approach to psychology, which focused on introspection and subjective experiences. Skinner believed that behavior was shaped by external factors, such as rewards and punishments, and that these principles could be used to modify and control behavior. In this video, we'll explore Skinner's famous "Skinner box" experiment, in which he trained rats to press levers for food rewards. We'll also look at his theories on reinforcement, punishment, shaping, and schedules of reinforcement, and how they've influenced modern psychology and our understanding of human behavior. But Skinner's ideas were not without controversy.
