On January 11, 2026, the Department of Botany, University of Lucknow, successfully organized the Alumni Association Meet (LUBDAA-2026). The programme was held under the esteemed guidance of the Hon’ble Vice-Chancellor, Prof. Manuka Khanna, who graced the occasion as the Chief Guest, and was convened by the Head of the Department, Prof. Gauri Saxena. The programme formally commenced with the ceremonial lighting of the lamp by the dignitaries, followed by a welcome address by the Head of the Department and an inspiring address by the Hon’ble Vice-Chancellor. The meet was marked by a series of delightful cultural performances. A vibrant dance by a group of little munchkins mesmerized the audience, while the research scholars of the department presented a colourful Heritage Walk, showcasing traditional attire representing the different states of India from north to south and east to west. Adding a melodious charm to the event, Mr. Suyash Asthana, Research Scholar, Department of Botany, enthralled the gathering with a soulful flute performance. Students also rendered classical as well as retro Bollywood songs, giving a wonderful alvida to the programme. A humorous skit titled “A Day in the Life of Research Scholars”, performed by the Ph.D. scholars, infused the gathering with laughter and joy. Alumni enthusiastically participated in a fun game in which they had to identify the correct prop corresponding to the song being played. A lively Paheli (riddle) round further enhanced interaction and engagement among the participants. The cultural programmes were thoughtfully curated by faculty members Prof. Ratna Katiyar, Dr. Asha, Dr. Kavita Arora, and Dr. Niharika, along with the research scholars of the department. A highlight of the programme was the generous contribution by Dr. Kuldeep Saxena, alumnus of the 1968 batch, who once again extended his continued support to the association by donating to the LUBDAA, reflecting his enduring commitment towards his alma mater. The event witnessed the gracious presence of several distinguished alumni, including Dr. D.K. Singh (Scientist, BSI), Prof. Jaswant Singh, and Prof. Pramod Tandon (Padma Shri awardee), along with several retired teachers from the Department of Botany such as Prof. Y.K. Sharma, Prof. Munna Singh, Prof. Nalini Pandey, Prof. Geeta Asthana, and Prof. Seshu Lavania (Former Heads). Other eminent alumni present were Prof. P. K. Tandon, Dr. P.C. Verma (Scientist, NBRI, Lucknow), Dr. D.K. Upreti (Principal Scientist, NBRI, Lucknow), Dr. Arvind Jain (Principal Scientist, NBRI, Lucknow) and Dr. Pratibha Mishra (Principal Scientist, NBRI, Lucknow). Alumni currently serving as Professors in colleges affiliated with the University of Lucknow were also present. Alumni ranging from the 1968 batch to the present batch participated enthusiastically in the programme. The alumni thoroughly enjoyed the “ready-to-print photograph” session and enthusiastically clicked pictures at the selfie board, capturing beautiful moments of togetherness. The programme was gracefully anchored by Dr. Kavita Arora, Assistant Professor, Department of Botany. The cultural programme was coordinated and hosted by the research scholars, Mr. Abhishek Maurya and Mr. Shisht Tiwari. The programme concluded with a heartfelt vote of thanks by Dr. Neha Sahu, Assistant Professor, Department of Botany, followed by a memorable group photograph.
