"Spanner", 2000. Waive formed in 2000. That April, the group released its first two demos: "Spanner" and "True XXX", with "Spanner" soon selling out and being repressed that May for another 1,500 copies, which quickly sold out as well. In October of 2000, Waive released their first single "Pink Distortion", which was limited to 5,000 copies, and later released its second single that November, "Girlish Mind (ガーリッシュマインド)", which was limited to only 400 copies. Both soon sold out, and by the end of the year, after less than a year together, Waive had managed to develop one of the largest followings in the underground visual scene, becoming one of the posterboy groups of the soft visual kei movement. In August of 2001, Waive released their third single "Sotto...", which was their first non-limited release. It had extremely strong sales in the visual underground, and in April of 2002, the group released its first full length album "Indies", which was limited to 5,000 copies and almost instantly sold out. In September of 2002, Waive released their fourth single "Will", which was only released at two lives, and later released their fifth single that December, "Kimi no Hitomi ni Koishiteru. (キミノヒトミニ恋シテル。)", which was released across the visual underground and sold extremely well, actually managing to break the Oricon charts at number 49. In April of 2003, Waive released their sixth single "Shunshoku (春色)", which would reach number 39 on the Oricon charts, and stayed in the charts for 2 weeks. In November of 2003, Waive rereleased their "Indies" album and also released their seventh single, "Kimi to Waraou (君と微笑おう)", which would reach number 43 on the Oricon charts, and also stayed in the charts for 2 weeks. Unfortunately for the group, the soft visual subgenre that they dominated in for years was starting to rapidly decrease in popularity beginning in 2004, which would begin to affect their sales tremendously, as evidenced with the release of their second full length album, "Indies2", which was released that April to rough sales. Despite the rough sales of "Indies2", the group's relative popularity still had the attention of a few major labels and in the summer of 2004, Waive became a major act and signed to Universal. In December of 2004, Waive made their major debut with the release of their eighth single "Ginga Tetsudou (銀河鉄道)", which failed to enter the Oricon charts, although had strong sales in the visual underground. In early 2005, Waive left Universal and instead signed to the legendary indies visual label Danger Crue, releasing two more singles throughout 2005 and later released their third full length album, "Hurt.", all of which had respectable sales, despite the fact that the soft visual subgenre that they dominated in for years at this point practically dissolved, leaving Waive as one of the very few groups left from the scene that was still popular. Nonetheless, despite their large, loyal following, the group would eventually end up officially disbanding in December of 2005. Frontman Takayuki (孝介) went on to join the duo Strobo (ストロボ), which would fold after about a year, and he then formed the indies group Spiral Life, which also dissolved after about a year together. Takayuki then would form the similarly named Spiral Mind, as well as the indies groups Ellenision and the soft visual supergroup Rayflower, as well as a solo career under his full name of Takayuki Tazawa (田澤孝介). While Ellenision and Spiral Mind would eventually both fold by 2014, Takayuki remained active as a solo artist and in Rayflower, which would become one of the most popular indies visual groups of the 2010s, and which he remains active in today. The guitarist of Waive, Yoshinori (善徳), went on to start a solo career under his full name of Yoshinori Sugimoto (杉本善徳), which he remains active as today. Bassist Jun (淳) joined the obscure indies group Leaf, before joining the popular group GaGaalinG, as well as forming the duo O-Parts, although both disbanded in 2010. He would then form the non-visual trio Earthmind as well as his own solo project One Element, and while Earthmind would fold by the end of 2013, Jun remained active in One Element until its eventual disintegration in 2021, and he then would continue on as a support musician for numerous groups, both visual and non-visual, which he remains active as today. In 2010, Waive temporarily reunited to impressive fanfare before dissolving again in 2011, and later reunited once more in 2015, touring heavily throughout the next several years and arguably being more popular than ever, releasing several singles throughout these years. In January of 2022, Waive would temporarily disband again, but reformed just a year later, before later announcing that they would split for good at the end of 2024. It did not happen though as Waive would tour throughout the remainder of 2025, with a reported actual disbandment date in January of 2026, after a oneman at the Nippon Budokan (日本武道館).
