Luanshya’s Shaft 28 to Resume Production August

By Hector Simfukwe Copper production at 28 Shaft at CNMC Luanshya Copper Mine is expected to start by August next year. Company Deputy Chief Executive Officer EVERISTO MWENYA says so far the company has dewatered 83 percent of the water at flooded shaft 28 Luanshya mine. Mr. MWENYA says the underground infrastructure was damaged by the water during the time the mine was flooded. He said this when he took Copperbelt minister ELISHA MATAMBO to the underground mine. Mr. MWENYA said the damaged infrastructure has been replaced and a modern power station is currently being constructed underground. And Mr. MATAMBO said Shaft 28 is no longer a story but a reality. He said the Mine will soon start creating more jobs once the remaining 17 percent of water is removed. Mr. MATAMBO said those doubting should visit the mine so that they are taken underground and see what the Zambian Engineers have done.
